The Pendulum New Music Series of the College of Music presents Tan Dun’s Ghost Opera in the ATLAS Black Box Theater, performed by Yihan Chen on Pipa and the Carpe Diem String Quartet.

Best known for his score for the acclaimed movie Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon, Tan Dun’s Ghost Opera is a cross-temporal, cross-cultural and cross-media dialogue which touches on the past, present and the eternal.

The production includes elements from Chinese, Tibetan, English and American culture. It combines performance traditions of the European classical concert, Chinese shadow puppet theater, visual art installations, folk music, dramatic theater and shamanistic ritual.

Ghost Opera blends elements of music, dance and theater making it a truly multi-faceted, multimedia work. This is the first concert of the College of Music’s Pendulum New Music Series concert season.

Free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Note: The ATLAS Black Box theater is located downstairs, basement level B2 in the Roser ATLAS building on the CU-Boulder campus.
