Members of Boulder’s Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance Company performed an interactive aerial dance and video performance entitled “Mapping,” a reference to genetic mapping, in the ATLAS Black Box.
Boulder’s Aerial Dance company performed a new interactive aerial dance and video performance, entitled “Mapping,” in the ATLAS Black Box theater on July 27 as part of the 2013 Aerial Dance Festival.
Inspired by socio-political issues surrounding genetic mapping, the production incorporated interactive computer graphics that simulated the flow of liquids.
The computer-generated graphics, projected wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling in the Black Box, immersed both audience and performers in an abstract, animated environment. Infrared cameras tracked the movements of the dancers, who were able to “stir” or influence the flow of the liquid graphics swirling around them. In real time, audiences experienced a visual conversation of movement between performing artists and the ever-changing, whirling liquid graphics.
