The heart of the ATLAS Institute is the 66,000-square-foot, $31 million Roser ATLAS building. It serves the CU campus with facilities for innovation in teaching and learning, multidisciplinary information technology curricula and research. Through exhibition and performance facilities and distance learning capabilities, the Roser ATLAS building draws our community into the networked information age.
The ATLAS Building Includes:
• Technology-enhanced, active-learning classrooms for use by all disciplines in on-site and distance education, including two 40-student classrooms, two 25-student classrooms, two computer labs/classrooms — one with high-definition projection and 30 dual-boot Macs, the other with 18 dual-boot Macs — and a design cluster for multimedia project courses.
• Eleven flexibly-scheduled student design and student project spaces, a student commons, and shared computer editing and graphics facilities.
• Performance and production studios that support multidisciplinary teaching and creative work in the creative and performing arts including Art, Dance, Film, Journalism, Music and Theater.
• A 150-seat, distance-learning equipped auditorium, a 75-seat film screening room, a lobby featuring a video wall, and Pekoe café.
The two-story 2,700- square-foot Black Box Studio performance space offers outstanding digital technology for interdisciplinary creative work with musicians, dancers, visual artists and technology, visiting artists, Web casts, interactive audio and visual performances, video production, and cinema projection. The Black Box Studio supports 360° HD projection, 5.1 and 8.1 audio configurations as well as DMX and MIDI controlled lighting and audio systems. This not only allows state of the art theatrical productions; it also offers unparalleled creative flexibility in design and implementation of hardware and software control interfaces. A 1,000 sq. ft. (12 ft. to grid) fully equipped three camera broadcast television production studio lies adjacent to the Black Box performance space.
